Two New Annual Calendars

LAST YEAR, PATEK PHILIPPE'S NEW GONDOLO CALENDARIO (ref. 5135) generated a groundswell of interest in the topic of annual calendars. The innovative use of materials and the technical advances developed for the 2004 caliber 324 contributed mightily to that interest, as did the unique dial design that placed the day and date along the dial top. See International Watch, May 2004, for more information about that debut.
This year, the company adds two new annual calendars that continue that innovation, though the presentation moves from an open date and day display to two subdials utilizing analog displays. These are placed on the dial amid the more traditional moonphase display with power reserve indicator. These two models, references 4936 (for ladies') and 5146 (men's) utilize a different version of the Patek Philippe caliber 315 movement described in the accompanying story about the firm's use of silicium components.
These new annual calendars fulfill the demand from men and women for the complication. As an annual calendar, it only requires a date adjustment once per year (in February). The ladies' model is made in white gold or yellow gold and has a mother-of-pearl dial with moonphase display and 156 diamonds on the bezel, seventy-eight diamonds on the case and fourteen diamonds on the crown. The men's model is sold in four styles, each 39 mm in diameter, available in either white gold or yellow gold, with a choice of either a slate gray dial or a white lacquered dial. Prices begin at $26,300 for the men's yellow gold and go up to $34,700 for the ladies' white gold model.
