This would all seem so normal, actually,
if we weren't talking about a precious-metal timepiece containing a delicate version of watchmaking's
highest complication: the flying tourbillon. The manually winding tourbillon movement has
a power reserve of 110 hours and beats at a frequency of 21,600 bph. It is limited to thirty-two
pieces in rose gold and another thirty-two in precious platinum.
At Sea
With the Ferrari partnership fully
behind the company, Girard-Perregaux has now set its course for the sponsorship of the BMW
Oracle, the main challenger for the America's Cup in 2007.
Banking on the tie that
watchmaking has with seafaring, and possibly the fact that the Sowind group (GP's parent
firm) also owns the right to use John Harrison's name, a watchmaker par excellence who facilitated
sea navigation with his precise marine chronometers in the 1700s, Girard-Perregaux has introduced
two special editions to commemorate this historic sponsorship.
Limited to 500 pieces, the case
of the Sea Hawk IIUSA 71 was specially designed for this purpose, culminating in

the special engraving on the caseback. This watch's strong personality really comes out in the unique crown
placement at 4 o'clock and the carbon fiber dial with strong luminescent elements.
The dial also features the words "Challenger of Record," the official title of the BMW Oracle
Racing Team as a main contender for the title.
Likewise, Girard-Perregaux has
also made a limited edition of 750 pieces of the ww.tc chronograph dedicated to USA 76, the America
Class yacht in which the BMW Oracle Racing Team sailed during the final selection for challengers
for the America's Cup in New Zealand in 2003.
