In celebrating its 160th anniversary, Ulysse Nardin became a true
manufacture
.
The new caliber represents a milestone for the niche brand from Le Locle.
"The notion that only watchmakers make watches is absurd," exclaims Rolf Schnyder in his typically abrupt manner. "It takes an entire team of various technicians of varying occupations to make an in-house-designed movement!"
The historic Ulysse Nardin factory in Le Locle was built in 1864.

n-house designing of movements is something Schnyder knows a great deal about. His company, Ulysse Nardin, has been one of the frontrunners of this type of industrial creativity since Schnyder bought the ailing brand in 1983. Though the Swiss quartz crisis was just hitting its climax in the early 1980s, this didn’t bother Schnyder, who had previously worked for some of the most prestigious names in watchmaking during a long career that has taken him to every corner of the globe.
