Jaquet Droz is fairly new to the Swatch Group’s roster. The group purchased the brand in 2000 and re-debuted it two years later. This year at BaselWorld the firm showed much to please lovers of unusual and finely wrought dials.
Since the rebirth of the brand, its experiments with different materials and enamel techniques have drawn great interest from industry insiders and consumers. The brand’s use of rare materials like meteorite or petrified wood, and its ability to secure the finest minerals such as aventurine, mookait or onyx, appeals to watch lovers and objet d’art collectors alike.
Among several new collections from Jaquet Droz, one set is blacker than black.
With Ligne Noir Absolu, the firm offers eighty-eight sets of eight absolute black dials made in the grand feu enameled style. The technique requires a mastery of the firing process, its intricate timing and the raw materials needed to create the dial. One of the eight watches, the Grande Second model, is made even darker because it is set into a black ceramic case.
