As I
mentioned above, the collection is full of enlivening juxtapositions, and the RM 016 forms the
counterpoint to the RM 011 in every way, including its size. It is just a shade under the length of the
RM 011 Felipe Massa and it is actually the thinnest wristwatch in the entire collection, while the
RM 011 is the largest in every way.
But
it is the first Richard Mille watch not to use the typical tonneau-shaped case. This gives it its own
particular identity within the collection and represents a departure from (or addition to) the
RM philosophy.
"The
tonneau shape will always remain a central part of the collection," says Mille.
"Although it too will develop and transform (as it already has) through time.
But I don’t want to be constrained to only this form forever. You know... it is important
to keep fresh and fit... experiments, challenges and change are part of that!"

The first watch in the collection that does not have a tonneau
shape, the RM 016 with its 8.25 mm height is also the flattest
in the Richard Mille ensemble.
